Why do you have to pay to use electricity? (Andre)

Is there any way of helping people get their rights back. (Louis)

Is it fair that people have more rights than animals? (Sophie)

Is what’s good for me good for you? (Rebecca)

Who came up with the idea of rights in the first place? (Marcus)

Do rights help us to make better decisions? (Sophia)

Do rights always give you freedom? (Billie)

Is it fair that some countries are poorer than others? (Anthony)

Why isn’t the world peaceful? (Zinder)

Why don’t all the countries have all the rights? (Archie)

Discussion

I think people have rights because without rights you wouldn’t be free and people might not let you so things that you want to do. (Rebecca)

You will just be a slave if you have no rights. Andre

If you didn’t have rights it would be really hard to live life. Billie

If people didn’t have rights the government wouldn’t do any work they would just get people to do it for them. Anthony

If people didn’t have any rights there wouldn’t be any freedom. Cynthia

I disagree with Andre because the government might not decide that everyone would be a slave. Louis

I agree with Andre because if there was a government that said you had no rights you would become a slave. Zinder

I agree with Louis because the G wouldn’t be mean to people just because they didn’t have rights. Texas

2.I think it isn’t fair how people are living in Libya because the g shouldn’t be able to do what they like. They should be sorting out things not making problems. Sophie

I think it isn’t fair because the country belongs to the people that live in the country and so the person that leads the country should be someone they like and makes good decisions. (Archie)

I think it is unfair the people in Libya have to live with a greedy g. Billie

I think it is not fair because the g shouldn’t rule over the whole country they should have some place where they can be free. Anthony

I think it is unfair because when we were reading the Nelson Mandela book it said that black people can’t vote and white people can vote. Zinder

I think it isn’t fair if there is fighting in Libya you should be able ot go to another country for a year. Texas

I think it isn’t fair because it is mean how they make people stay in the country when there is lots of fighting because it would be unfair to the children because they were not the ones who started it. Phoebe

I disagree with Texas because if there is fighting you can’t expect to go to any country and be allowed in. You have to ask the Prime Minister will let you in. Marcus

I don’t think it is fair because the g is shooting people when they least expect it, invading their homes and when people die it is sad for their friends and family. Nellie

I agree with Phoebe because the g can’t do what they want to. Zac

I disagree with Marcus because what if you didn’t know about the fighting. Emily

I think it isn’t fair because some children in Libya have nothing to do with the fighting and will get badly hurt. Texas

I disagree with Marcus and agrees Texas because you can be sent to another country as a refugee. Cynthia

I agree with Texas and children don’t have anything to protect themselves with when the fighting is happening. Zac

Our Visitor

JOHN

STRAWBRIDGE THE PROJECT MANAGER FOR THE WORLD CUP

John Strawbridge came to Whetu assembly to talk to us about how people are going to get to the world cup. He said that 15,000 people are going in their cars, 1,000 by bus, 3,000 are going to do the special walking route, 2,000 are going in private coachs & 17,000 by train

"Train will be the most populur trasport," said John. Probably 15,000 people will go in each door at the world cup. There are 60,000 seats in the park.

We hope people are able to get to the World Cup smoothly and we really enjoyed Mr. Strawbridge's visit.

"Eden Park!' By Emilie, Sophie and Jessie.

On Tuesday we went to Eden Park.
They welcomed us by putting our Balmoral logo on the screens.
We felt very welcome because our logos were EVERYWHERE!!

When we went into the changing rooms, we saw nets on the roof in front of the lights
so they could practice without damaging the lights, but they don't have nets in front
of their TV.

We weren't allowed on the grass because the grounds keeper would get MAD, and there were patterns on the grass that were just the light or the way that the mower mowed it. On the grass someone had painted "World Cup 2011".

You should go to Eden Park its all WOW WOW WOW and one more WOW.

Going Global

Today we were very fortunate to have two teachers from Switzerland visit our class. We learned so much about their culture and how it is to communicate with people from other places that speak a different language and are learning about English.

We practised how to welcome them and it went very well. At the end of the visit we presented Eveline and Simi with a piece of collaborative art that showed some of the special treasures we have in New Zealand.

Here are some words to help you.
